It could just be a marketing name, like Cuties or Halos. Try going to Hale's web site and looking around. Sometimes those companies will list the actual varieties of citrus. For example, Cuties are actually about 5 different mandarins that ripen over the fall/winter/spring, and on the web site they'll say which one is sole during which months.

OK, never mind about Hale's web site. I just checked and they don't say. But I'm pretty sure it's the same situation as Cuties, imo.

The only web site I found that said anything about them besides Hale's is this one, where they say the Jewels are a cross between Temple oranges and Dancy mandarins. So idk, maybe a newer variety that Hale has exclusive rights to. Anyway, it's a Florida mandarin, so that would be a good place to start looking. Good luck.

Hi Alex, thanks so much for your response. I have tried a lot of other citrus fruit since then and stand by my original post as the SolZest being the BEST I've ever had :-)

I just tried a Jaffa Orri. It seemed late in the season. Most of the fruit at the store were going bad. It was good, it had a delicate sweet flavor. I would like to try it in its prime. Seems to be low acid. Still prefer GNs but I'll give Orri another try if I find it in the stores again. I found small 2 seeds (bit into one), but from what I read, they are not easy to germinate/keep alive. The seeds are on the skinny side.

Florida has a habit of creating its own names for citrus; for example the Cara Cara orange is called Red Navel in Florida.
