Living room, no ceiling wiring hookup, need lighting options

We have a living room that has no ceiling fixture or wiring for a ceiling fixture. We need to add lighting to that room. What is the best way to get even lighting across the room. It is too dark. Lighting is only from adjacent rooms or foyer lighting. We were thinking two torchiere floor lamps on opposite corners of the room. Pointing up, high wattage. Not sure if this would work. We are not a fan of these floor lamps, but can't see any other alternative.

floor lamps, up lamps if you can still find and table lamps or wall sconces are generally the way you get light in a living room.

You are fortunate not to have overhead lighting......otherwise you would be tempted to use it!!! :). Table lamps, floor lamps, sconces, etc. provide warm lighting that makes a room the most attractive!

I really dislike overhead lighting in LRs much better to combine floor and table lamps for lighting with wall washer sconces if need.
