Solid core are always my preference. They are more sound proof and quality is better.

I just ordered my doors for the home we are building today. I did solid on the main floor and hollow in the basement. I would have loved solid everywhere, but it was cost prohibitive.

That's a great idea and I am actually considering doing that!

Yes, I would love all solid core doors as well but I am realizing how quickly every cent/dollar adds up.

What is the price difference?

We have hollow on all interior doors and I can't say it's been a problem.

I've seen it be as much as $100-$125+ more for solid vs. hollow core.

In our case, Price is $150 per door difference between hollow and solid.

Solid core paneled doors add architectural interest and are so much prettier and sturdier than hollow core. Our house was 16 years old when we moved in and many of the hollow core doors were cracked and the veneer was peeling. We eventually changed them out a few at a time to solid core paneled doors, except for bedroom closets which we replaced with hollow core. That was about 17 years ago. I noticed last week that one of the closet doors was showing wear spots.

Hollow core doors do look well with very modern and contemporary styles.

It might be interesting to compare the price of a good solid core door that you can buy yourself compared to how much the builder wants to charge. I would assume the builder would get a deal, but I have been buying my own name brand sink, and faucet online for a kitchen refresh and I think they are much less than the plumbing supply store charges.

Solid doors are preferred but often cost prohibitive. I would do as suggested by either :
1. Getting solid for spaces where more privacy/sound protection preferred
2. Split them up by floor.
