I’m not sure I’m following your task. Can you post a picture
or link of the hoe and screw you have ref to?
I feel it’s just a screw to secure the blade “tightly” on the handle. If that is the case, is the screw strong
enough?

Thanks for the response. I cannot submit a picture. The eye hole part appears to be cast and has three holes that are used to attach (bradded) to a flat piece of metal that would be the part that you cultivate with. This flat piece is well worn and I would like to replace. A metal shop gave me a piece of 0.125 thick sheet metal but could tell me if the metal was suitable for digging. I do want to waste my time if it is not. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Good grade screws should work just as good IMO. Hopefully you have a Dia that allows 3/16 – ¼”
screws. Looking at more of your task and info, I would agree 1/8” thick metal “not
tempered” is not much to work with vs 3/16 – ¼” and tempered to harden the
steel (depending on the use). What type
of digging is the hoe used for to be worn???

My concern was would unhardened metal be suitable and I think that you addressed that. I will do little digging with the hoe , I mainly wanted to change the hoe blade because it needed fixing. Thanks for your help.

I've seen very old hoes of the type I "think" you're describing, at one time, blacksmiths would rivet part of a disc blade to the "mounting eye" which made an almost indestructable hoe. .125 is an eighth of an inch I believe, that's thin for a hoe blade. See if you can find an old disc and get a couple of blades, cutting torch, some rivets and you're set for life.
