Grafted tomato plants were developed to help off-set the effects of chronic, soil-borne diseases (TSWV, CMV, TMV, etc.). Those viral diseases that essentially have no other preventative process. If you have heavily infected soils then they are well worth the investment. If you do not, or if your disease issues are air-borne fungus and/or bacterial disease, then they aren't.

Any increased production, and that is hotly debated, then it is a result of the plants ability to resist those diseases in infected soil.

All grated tomato plants are NOT the same quality in either the rootstock used or the quality of the graft itself. So they come with their own set of associated problems and careful research into the supplier is needed.

Also, in addition of what Dave said, any effect on productivity , (IFF ANY) must come from the vigor of the root stock. So when you graft a variety (with weak root system) onto a root stock with a better, more aggressive root system you will end up, with a bigger plant and maybe more fruits.

In other words, the plant does NOT inherit anything from the root stock.

i've been grafting for 3 years now and its realy not that hard you should give it a shot.i do think i get alot more production from grafting but you need to find the right matchup or just buy mighty mato plants they do pretty good
