That looks like Palm Grass, Molineria capitulata, though it's neither a palm nor a grass. Also very similar is Setaria palmifolia, sometimes called African Palm Grass which is actually a grass. The Molineria has small yellow flowers at its base.

Do you happen to know whether M. c. flowers come early in its life?

I haven't taken any particular notice of how soon they flower but yours does look large enough for it to start flowering.

Wouldn't rule out palms if you have some nearby?? They all look alike as seedlings If it starts developing a trunk you'll know for sure lol gary

Leaves of this thing differ much from those of the Sabals that are coming up
all over (probably S. palmetto, possibly S. etonia).
I read that these Sabal can continue trunkless for many years.

Have another option for you . Curculigo I have a variety called C. orchidoides that looks much like the pic Like many tropical plants has a host of species within the genus When I got it they called it a "Palm orchid" lol

It flowers in a similar fashion small yellow flowers arranged in a circle coming out of the ground around the main stem It tends to offset but given enough time it formed a weak trunk but at least for me stays under 4 feet Everyone always thinks it's a palm lol Another choice to add to the confusion lol A whole bunch of terrestrial orchids look very much like the Curculigo and various palms until they flower.lol gary

You're right, Curculigo orchidoides, too, looks like mine.
Given that leaves and flowers of species capitulata and orchidoides
look identical in photos, I may end up knowing only the genus;
which would be adequate.
