Well, there are many other places for skeeters. I figure with moving water and fish the pond isn't going to have too many that survive. I do plan to try and keep standing water in pot saucers dumped out. I'm too old to have babies but don't want to facilitate anyone else getting sick.

You probably won't need netting over a small pond if you use Dunks. The dunks and even a few mosquito fish will take care of that.

I use dunks in all my water containers, so I don't have a problem with my water plants. It's other things you have to keep on top of, it only takes the size of a small teaspoon to breed those buggers.

Dunks really do the job well, I love them. No worries.

I'm very concerned,since I'm in Florida not so much that I can't control the mosquitoes but that they will pass laws against ponds. or more particular water gardens . Have never seen a wriggler in mine because I keep fish of several kinds and of course they prefer stagnant water, My greatest concern is the rain barrels very difficult to keep them out of that. Have been fine filtering about every 3 days doesn't seem to be enough noticed some yesterday. May discontinue my small ones and continuously filter the large one . Have no other ideas ?? Besides Zika , dengue fever west nile and even malaria has shown up here . gary

It adds to the challenge. Your concern about outlawing ponds might just be valid. We take care of our ponds, but some people set it up and forget it letting pumps die etc....in the end it ends up green soupy water full of who knows what.

I heard goldfish eat more mosquitoes then Koi. I have a blend of both. I had an oxygen crash and lost many of my fish this season, so I have added two air stones and went to a three tier pump nozzel. I blame my bell nozzel for the deaths. First I thought I had overdosed the Pond Prime, but hubby looked at what I had put in and said I had not, so the only thing is I had little surface movement with the bell head. They look pretty but flow into the pond in a smooth fashion not creating much conditions for oxygen. Now the surface of my pond is moving nicely.

Originally set up the rain barrels for my indoor planted aquariums but have now discontinued all but one but now keep hard water fish so can use tap water. I use the rainwater for the potted plants Dunks are an answer but must be constantly renewed feel they would be ineffective where the water is changed so often such as the barrrels.. By filtering I can put the larvae in with the fish and and have great fish food as a bonus.. The main problem is that all the collection sites have to be connected for it to work.

Most non pond /fish keepers think water gardens are mosquito breeders and these are the people who make up the laws?? lol When you think about it Florida is mostly swamp with lakes ponds canals not to mention runoff retention ponds so eliminating water gardens would be a drop in the bucket lol Hopefully the lawmakers will keep that in mind?? gary
