Cut it at the stem where green begins. See if it roots. Worst thing could happen is that it dies. But it could root!

Never give up until the fat lady sings. I've got two that went south this winter. Foliage... all gone. Whacked them back at the soil, yet the roots seem firmly in place. I'll wait and see if they come back this spring. If I don't see anything by about late June, I'll toss them...

Denise - thanks. Quick question, when you say the roots are firmly in place, how do you deal with long heavy vines, such as wayetii, when the weight of the vine starts to pull the roots out of the soil?

Well, what a great problem to have! So much growth that it's pulling the plant right out of the pot? Good for you! LOL! I would probably put it in a bigger pot with more soil - I assume this means the rootball is pretty solid. Then, either way (whether you move it up or not...), I would put some large rocks on top to weight the rootball down. Wayetti is not one I've ever had this problem with, but there are some that have huge, heavy leaves that can be tough to keep in the pot, like latifolia. Those kind I set on a shelf and clip the vines (with LARGE hair clips) to the shelves to hold them in place.

Thank you Denise. I did put grani-grit on top and that is helping. When using an almost soilless mix there doesn't seem to be much of an anchor for the roots. Maybe I should start including it into my mix.

I use rhizome clips to hold plants in place. I just make my own using 18 gauge copper or galvanized wire, so they can fit any pots. If it's a long/heavy vine you may need a few clips or heavier gauge wire. They are really useful during rooting cuttings too. You can cover the wire with potting mix too, so it's not ugly.
