I'm cleaning out my pond here in the Pacific Northwest, last summer I added water hyacinth to the pond not really knowing a lot about them, they look either dead or dormant right now and I'm trying to figure out which it is, the leaves of the plants are brown. Are water hyacinth an annual in the Pacific Northwest? Or if they're alive can I remove the dead leaves then throw the roots back in the pond?
