Both of the tables look too heavy and over-sized for your space.

Hi. The 60-inch round will fit 5 people easily and comfortably. What you need to consider here is if you have enough space to center the table under the chandelier. Right now it is off-set; it should be centered. Round will be great if the dimensions work.

Looking at what I see of the room I would go with the round 72' table. With the round doorways and the octagonal nook, it asks for a round table.

golfer32, I agree with the lighting issue... I am actually planning to have it changed to another fixture and moved possibly. I have a friend who suggested not moving it since it aligns with the window. But, it drives me insane where it is located. I am also going to change out the back splash... it also drives me insane!

Follow up question - how has the St. James table held up? Any issues, water marks, etc? Thanks in advance!

Paula, I have 3 kids and we use it as a kitchen table. I wouldn't recommend. It is going to have to be refinished sooner than later. I still love the look... Not durable at all though... sadly! If you are using for a dining table which is used infrequently it would be much better.

dcoleh - this would be for my kitchen table, just like yours. I am sad to hear this bc it's such a gorgeous table. I appreciate your honest review and saving me from a disaster of an investment.

Paula, if you don't have children, maybe you can get a glass top made for it. I did this with my kitchen table.

For the most part is it just your family seeing/using it? If so, get a vinyl, stretchable cover for the table top. You can keep it on for daily use and then remove it ( takes 1 second) when you want your table yo be seen. I have them in different sizes depending on if the leaves are in or not.

When company comes to dine you put your pretty tablecloth overtop. Our kitchen table has one on all of the time because I love to use tablecloths.

My DD has toddlers. She loves the protector because she does not have to worry about the beautiful tabletop.

It's just such a gorgeous table, that I would to cover it, but overall not a bad idea! I've heard of others adding a monocoat but I'm not sure if this would void the warranty or even hold out.

Can you see how it's rubbing off? It has already replaced it once. The first table had over half rubbed off in the first few months. This one has held up better. They told me you can not put anything on it that it voids warranty. I should take to a professional painter and ask if they have options. I didn't want to cover it up either. I thought about glass but with the edge not being flat the glass company advised against it.
