Range Hood dilemma

Hi everyone,

We are building a new house. I have attached a picture of our kitchen. The upper cabinets are stainless and glass, lower- light wood. The counter tops will be light, probably white. Refrigerator will have a glass door. Floors will be dark hardwood and light fixtures will be three mini crystal pendants. We are using home depot for cabinets and their software is limited in terms of what they can plug in.

I was absolutely certain all along that I will get this hood but now I am having serious doubts. It seems to be too traditional for the space.

Here are a few I have now looked at but I am open to ANY other suggestions, please do not be limited by what I have posted. Thank you!

There are plenty of contemporary hoods in the market. Have you visited an appliance store other than Home Depot?

I think you are right, it is very old fashioned and your kitchen is very modern. The modern one in photo 3 is huge, just something basically the shape of the one in the mockup would be fine too.

Carmel- of course. I was just getting the cabinets at home depot. The hoods I mainly looked at on line.

Allison- so do you think the one in picture three will be overwhelming?

It's hard to tell without knowing the real dimensions. In photo 3, the hood is much wider than the range and there is nothing else on their wall. Would it be that much bigger than your range and do you have room for it with the cabinets on that wall?

The range is 48" so I am thinking the hood should be the same size? I like to have some room on either side so it is more airy feel to the kitchen.

will this be too much stainless steel considering the cabinets and other appliances?

Most on line sites selling hoods will have calculators to properly size the hood, both dimensions and venting. I would go with something similar to the vent in photo 3, simple, clean, modern.

Something like the Miele DA 5196 36" Wall Hood or the DA 6296 W 36" Lumen Wall Hood would be fun (you can almost infinitely change the color of the LED light across the front) if the size works. Would be awesome with your SS & glass modern kitchen! I have no idea what you need with gas, I've gone "induction"...love it and will never go back!
