8 months to see growth?

Is it normal for it to take leaf cuttings 8 months to show their first leaves? I'm a novice and have no idea what I'm doing (hence being here)! I have 8 cuttings, 6 in a soil/perlite mix and 2 are in vermiculite only. The ones in the soil mixes (3 diff kinds, hoping a few would thrive & guide my next repot) are only showing root growth. The soil is nice & light so they shouldn't have trouble "peaking through". The ones in vermiculite are finally showing green growth but when should I repot, and into what kind if soil? I believe vermiculite doesn't hold nutrients well and they'll need something that does. Help!
