I really like the exterior! I think you need more natural plantings (and maybe to trim that tree that's blocking the view), and there's probably a better shade of paint for the siding that harmonizes better with the stone colors. Beyond that, depends a lot on your taste, which you haven't said anything about, but you might replace the wood railing with a modern metal one for an infusion of modernity. Looks like it might need new windows too.

You might want to do something to emphasize the front door too.

Thanks! I think the paint is the biggest thing for this house, but I'm kind of afraid of buying the place, painting it, and still not liking the house! (that, and I scared of making such a huge decision!!) I'm not really into the modern look (I do like more of a traditional or "older" look), but I am having trouble coming up with a color that would match better with the rock. I am also no good with plants and things of that nature. Re-doing all of that is more daunting than the kitchen remodel we have planned if we decide to buy this one!

I think the house is adorable, but it looks more rustic to me. That little tree in front needs to come out. Then it will be perfect.

This house is awesome with the tree removed. It's sort of rustic meets mid century modern.

I agree this house has a lot of appeal as is. I think the color could be updated, at least the trim and maybe a nicer front door with a color to help it stand out from the windows near it.

This is a great house! If I were you I would paint the siding a darker tone, SW: 7032 Warm Stone and find a new front door, Codel Con-14641 with the optional Rooftop Glass.

I think it is really cute and has a lot of potential for easy changes. It will all depend on your taste though. the only thing I don't like it the severely trimmed bushes in the picture. Let them grow a little rounder for a softer look and I agree that taking out the tree would help.

i think the big question is do you like the inside? If you are so so about the inside, maybe pass?

Thanks!!! I appreciate the help. We do love the inside, the people who had it before did some really good renovations on it. The only thing I want to do to the inside is expand the kitchen a little bit, and there's plenty of room to do that.

I agree with others that this is a good looking place. To me the weaker link is the landscape but that can be taken care of later once you are settled. If you decide on a different paint scheme that is also a pretty easy change.

I don't think you should buy a house you think is ugly. It sounds like no change in paint color is going to make you like this house. If you are not in a hurry then keep looking. I like the house, it is just not right for you.

I tried on the colors Xty G (z3) suggested and adjusted your bushes:

Garage door would probably be better gray, but you get the general idea.

That looks pretty good! Maybe a very light gray trim instead of bright white?

For an even more traditional look, depending on budget of course, would be to add shutters and move the steps up to the porch in front of the front door and close off the steps to the right, and give it a more traditional railing. Then with a beautiful wood or painted front door, you would almost have a traditional bungalow look.

A garage door with windows along the top would help too.

If you move the front steps directly in front of the front door, you could make a stone path leading down from the driveway at a little arch away from the house, then have a nice space between the path and the house for landscaping.

In addition to moving the front steps, adding a pergola over the porch can really add visual interest with a more traditional look:

The railroad tie border on the flower bed in front is so zigzagging that I think it's detracting from all of the great texture you have in the stonework. I'm not clear that you need a border there; maybe you can just remove it? It doesn't look like a retaining wall, but it's hard to tell from the photo.

Depending on your budget, updating the garage doors may be enough.

Add shutter to left window. The brick on your home is very attractive and creates a focal point on it's own, so that I think whatever is in front of the home should not be complex looking. I feel that a solid run of foundation shrubs would be more unifying rather than the two individual shrubs on the left. I would fill in those gaps. You can purchase smaller or larger shrubs to fill in so that the tops of the shrubs stay level.

You have two plants that are very close to the foundation, particularly on the left hand side. Ideally, that would be moved forward about 10 ft and when you looked straight on the house it would have more impact to the whole. I would add River Birch trees that would suit the country feeling of this home. A grouping of this tree in front and to the left side of the house would add color and texture.

Amoeba's redo with the windows on the garage looks great! Add some shutters on the far left window, a sconce by the front door, and more fluid landscaping, and it would look pretty great!

Such a handsome house! Contemporary styling works well with it. A wire railing like this one would open up the front entryway:

Maybe a new garage door would perk it up, and definitely a contemporary light (though this one is retro contemporary -- from the 70s, that is). This door isn't quite right, but maybe you could find a better contemporary door that works with the other elements. Fresh landscaping will make this house sing!

I think that enhancing your curb appeal just calls for a little color! Maybe paint the front door a bright color, and utilize landscaping that accents the color of the door.
