While brick might look nice , it is next to impossible to clean. Something that doesn't show the dirt isn't the same as something being clean.

I agree there is no way that brick is clean I have a stone wall behind my stove and I clean it once a month because no matter how careful I am it gets dirty.

I hope I can discourage you from using a hard-to-clean material as a backsplash; it defeats the purpose.....particularly if the grouted joints are wide and/or recessed. That would change cleaning behind the stove (post-spaghetti sauce) from a 1 minute job to 1 hour and with a less satisfying result. Brick is very hard to clean because it absorbs stains, and it will grind any sponge to shreds in short order. Perhaps you can find a tile that has a similar look, but is smooth and non-porous.

There is a product by American Tile that mimics brick but is a porcelain tile, 4 x 8 size. Have included a photo of one of the colors installed on an outside wall on a porch.

There are 4 colors available, one that matches very close to the original Old Chicago brick paver.

Amyz, I do have 8 foot ceilings, and my countertops are honed Olympian White Danby marble.

Regarding the brick, the joints are flush, not recessed.

Diana, your kitchen is beautiful. We're considering Olympian White Danby and that has really swayed us!
