Our main bathroom was a nightmare. Ugly, dingy and so small that you had to squeeze next to the side of the toilet to close the door. It also had a weird vacant space in the corner that had no counter or cabinet (but DID have a backsplash!). Plus, the lighting was yellow and terrible for a room with no windows. Four people use this room as their primary bathroom and we needed to do something to create more space and make it look more modern and fresh.
We removed the vanity and installed a pedestal sink, installed new flooring, painted the entire room and ceiling white and built a galvanized pipe shelving unit. With the same square footage, the room feels twice as big. There is more floor space since we removed the vanity and the dark floors with the white walls and ceiling visually trick you to make it look like the walls are receding, giving the effect of extra space where there really isn't any.
The transformation is extraordinary. I find myself just standing in the doorway staring at it. The work took two weeks from beginning to end (working nights and weekends around our regular schedules).
