Foyer rug

I need help decided what size rug to buy. The width of the entry is about 6 feet. I put a 5x8 rug down just to see the size, but I think it's too wide (and not the style I'm looking for). Other standard rug sizes seem like they will be too small or narrow.
Any suggestions on how wide the rug should be?

Maybe you should consider a runner..about 4' wide for the length of the hallway...usually runners are available by the foot with the service of binding the cut ends...if you plan on accessorizing the walls with art..mirrors ....console tables..lamps..? Then it could be narrower...if you are keeping the hall simple then it will be worth the expense of selecting a statement rug as an introduction to your home....since it is located where there will be daily traffic ...purchasing a quality rug is a good idea as well

I agree with a runner. Runners come about 2 1/2 ft wide by 8 ft long.

Another option would be to use a rug in the area where you enter the room on the right and furnish the wall opposite the opening with a lovely console table and maybe two small side chairs ...with even a hanging light above ...creating a foyer ....and adding a small entry rug at the door ...

Thanks! My goal in the "feeling" of the entry is similar to this picture, so I'll probably have a small table. I've only searched for rugs online or at furniture stores and haven't seen "by the foot" runners (maybe I'm looking at too cheap of places). What kind of store sells those?

The inspiration is beautiful. You won't achieve that look with the rug you picked. Not sure what you mean by "by the foot" runners? Type runners in google and many sites come up. When you click on runners 2 1/2 x 8 is standard. You can go to any rug store and have any size cut and bound

Usually carpet stores offer runners in variable sizes and can make them to size from any carpet they sell...however if you do the foyer ( which your space is ideal for) the runner is not necessary...the size shown in your last photo or the 5x7 would work well to accentuate the foyer area

Love your inspiration photo and also notice the detail on the ceiling where the lamp chain is attached...these are the tiny details that really add to the finished look...there are all sorts of options on lamp sites
