Kitchen pendant light trends?

I remodeled my kitchen a number of years ago with the help of this forum. Since you are in the midst of the process now, I know you are on top of the latest trends.

After 13 years, some things must be replaced in my kitchen. One of them is the pendant light over the sink. Because this is a chance to add an updated touch to the kitchen, I am wondering what is the latest look? I see lots of industrial style pendants but I am just not into the schoolhouse or gymnasium look.

Are colored glass pendants like this one still in style, or is it dated? Pendant

I still see them in lighting shops, but that could be because they have not updated their displays. I do like that fused glass (or whatever its called) look, but I see an awful lot of clear glass pendants out there.

So, experts, what is the trend? Will I be okay with the colored glass pendant?

When you said "colored glass pendants" my first thought was "those are a little dated", thinking of what we have hanging in my work place. The kind of oval shaped pendants with swirls of different colors.

However, I think the ones that you linked to are pretty and interesting and not dated at all. I wouldn't worry too much about "dated" if you like the way something looks and it fits in with the style of your kitchen.

Here's what we are putting in our new build - I love them - and don't care if they are dated!! They are a mosaic glass. I very much like what you have chosen!

Thanks! It makes me feel better that I like something that is not the latest thing. The only decisions in my house that I've regretted are the ones that were very "of the moment". Moments pass quickly! Pdmd, I think that is gorgeous. I figure if the lighting companies are still manufacturing them and selling them, they are current.

I am so glad that all of my kitchen remodel decisions are behind me. I now have to replace the broken garbage disposal, the icemaker in the refrigerator and the moveable vent thing on the OTR microwave. Some porcelain tiles on the floor have cracked and the grout has been replaced in some spots. Don't ever relax and think "done"!

My one caution about colored pendants is the light they cast. We invested in colored glass pendants about ten years ago and I just couldn't stand the yellow and orange color they cast on everyone and everything.

Well whether they will be dated soon or not, this is what I put in my kitchen. And they still make me smile, so that's all that matters to me :) So pick what you love. You are the one who has to look at it!

Here are mine, my husband wanted a pop of color in my very white kitchen. I hope they're not dated, but oh well!

I put yellow/gold hand blown glass shades from Mission Studio over my kitchen bar in my condo. When we put the place on the market last month, I removed them and put in generic (very inexpensive) globes. (The glass shades are the most expensive part of the pendant). You can bet they will get a prominent place in my new kitchen when my house is built!

Put in what you love. If you still love it when you're ready to move (and don't care about trends), do as I'm doing. Replace them with something generic and on trend for when you move. In the meantime, enjoy it.
