I have 2 passiflora incarnata ("purple passionfruit") vines that I bought locally (I live in Honolulu Hawaii) last August. They were about 2.5 to 3 ft tall then, the base beginning to get woody and strong. Planted in the ground right away. I also have about 15 "yellow passionfruit" vines of varied ages, from 5 in. to 4 ft. tall, that grew from seeds of a fruit thrown intl my compost bin (I'd find sprouts and just transfer them into the ground).

The biggest vine has grown many branches that I've snaked all over my fence, then up to the roof and back. My point is it is huge and has grown so fast and eagerly. So the conditions must be good, right? Yet none of my vines has ever shown a single flower or bud.

I read something about pollination, but there aaren't even any flowers to pollinate. But I have had gulf frittilary caterpillars- back in November or December my leaves wet all getti eaten by them so I'd get rid of them while they were still small. I began seeing l less and less evidence of them. Maybe because I got rid of the cucumber vine that was growing amongst it (which profusely flowered and fruited in its first few months)? Now I hardly see any GFB caterpillars. But like I said, they dont have anything to pollinate and they eat up my leaves.

Other than that, water and sunlight and good soil location are all done right. I dont fertilize or pesticide them, and I train them onto a twine trellis on the fence securing with mostly just their own tendrils.

What could be the problem? Is it really still too young to even have its first flower? What can I do to speed things up?
