Just a personal preference -- some like a continuous flooring; others prefer the ease of cleaning tile; others prefer the give of wood under their feet.

Same flooring if open concept. Hardwood floors look better for lighter cabinetry. You really need some contrast if you have stained cabinets. Large transitions look odd. Can get away with it better if an island or peninsula breaks up the transition length. I vote wood for all, even at the door (used appropriate rug). Or if you don't mind the hard cold surface you could do a wood look tile throughout. My rule is that tile is where there is a shower/tub that creates moisture and dripping and wood anywhere else. I have a split main floor bath where wood is in sink area and tile in the toilet shower area. GL

Hardwood unless you are 20 tile is very hard on backs and knees when you spend a lot of time there
