Kristi, I wasted lots of time and money in quest for the best medium for my Amaryllis pots, now I know that the cheapest freely available river loam mixed with leaf compost and balanced fertilisers is what they like the most.

I think that perhaps your odd flower is just a deformed bloom, I have had that happen a few times and the remainder of the flowers were normal.
