Bathroom walls

Hi everyone, I'm looking for some advice on my ensuite bathroom.

I have no idea what the couple were thinking that built this house but we live in a semi rural area, a long way from the beach and they have made the bathrooms a beach/ocean theme.

Anyway we are looking to sell up in a few months and are just trying to freshen up everything in the house. I'm stuck on this bathroom though.

I was thinking to paint all the walls white and just replace the discoloured silicone and possibly paint the bench top.

Any suggestions you guys could give would be a major help! Also, I'm on a budget so can't re-tile or anything major like that.

Thanks in advance!

I'm with Olychick. I don't think this is a bad look at all. You could freshen up the walls ith a new coat of paint and remove and replace any untidy caulk -- something that should be done every few years anyway. Clean the floor with a good cleaner with oxigent-based bleach to freshen the grout.

Anybody who hates the color is not going to persuaded differently by white walls. I'd keep them the same color and forget about green-haters as potential buyers. Hang a few pictures to give the room interest.

The cabinet doors make the room look dated (1950 ish). Look into having a local cabinet shop make new doors for an updated look.

I actually do not think the tile is that bad. If you cannot afford to put a new vanity in, the best you can do is to do what the poster above advises and buy new updated cabinet doors and pain the vanity. Maybe you could get a new top for it as well and then leave the rest? Not sure though you could pull the top off with the tile above it. It wouldn't be a deal breaker for me either. I actually like the blue tile and wall color!

So relieved to hear you guys don't think the colours are that bad!!!

But the walls do really need to be painted as there's a lot of little dents. I was thinking either an off white with a blue tint or the same grey colour that's in the accent tiles?

And what style of cabinet doors do you think?

And if I paint that vanity what colour would you suggest?

    Paint it gray or white.

I'm not clear on what you are asking, you did say 'bench top' ....are you asking about painting the blue vanity top or the cabinet it rests on.

I'm talking about the blue vanity top.

Im fine with the cabinet colour

Olychick - bench tops are countertops down under.

If there is a way to paint the countertop cheaply enough I would do it.

Oh, what you can also look into is "faux" or "instant granite". I know it sounds terrible, but I installed it in a rental kitchen three years ago, and it has held up beautifully. The funny thing is that the GC thought I had installed a new top. I bought the sta Cecilia on overstock, I believe, but you can also check ebay.

They now also have a marble look alike. I have several samples The taupe (limestone?) and Uba Tuba look pretty good.

Do a google search. There are other manufacturers.

Is instant granite flexible enough to wrap around the vanity's bull nose edge?

I have heard of this product, but never used it. I would be interested in anyone's experience with it.

I think simple framed flat panel doors would work well and are eclectic enough to fit in almost any decor.

    @starcraft:

Yes, it is. Also used it around an ogee edge, or whatever it's called.

The color is totally off, it looks completely like the pictures linked above.
