Need rug/ curtain/ other advice

My living room has hardwood floors but missing a rug at least in front of grey couch. My style is more transitional, but I can't seem to pull the decor together. I like navy and white for pillows but something is still missing. Would like rug to tie in the greys and navy, and possibly replace my rustic coffee table. I love the small oriental 3x4' area rug in front of my ladder shelves, but otherwise that space is blank. Help me make my space cozy!!

These are just a few suggestions! A large piece of art may look better above your couch than the shelf. A leather ottoman in brown or black may also look better than the current coffee table.

There are too many shelves. This can make you otherwise neat house look cluttered. I would recommend getting rid of all the shelves including the ladder shelf and the wall shelves. Move the wall shelves to a hall wall.

I like your interesting coffee table but the white is a bit jarring. You could paint it a color or colors that would make it blend better.

Thank you! I love those antique wood gutter shelves, but to move them would involve patching holes that we did to mount them, and ultimately painting the walls. Another project that turns into peeling an onion.

Any ideas on an area rug? I can swap out the coffee table for leather, I like that idea, just need to find a good piece. Thoughts?

Your small room has a big sofa. I don't think you need another heavy looking piece like a leather ottoman. If you are considering a coffee table then maybe one that's lighter looking--clear acrylic or glass or even wire will keep from closing in your room.

Leek we I like the metal and glass coffee table, I've seen some that might work well. What about a rug suggestion? I'm not into hide rugs. My bf has a few in his home and they look nice but just not my style.

You love the Oriental...so use that in front of the sofa. Layer it over a sisal. Then replace the coffee table with the acrylic leelee suggests.

Add navy trim to your panels. I suggest you rehang them...higher and wider than they are now.

Remove all those shelves and adornments. Those do not make for transitional.

Thank you, JudyG! Unfortunately my oriental rug is only 3x4', and the couch is a monster. I'll have to find something else larger. Wasn't sure if I should do a rug with a big pattern using same neutrals as oriental or something bold to pull in the blue. Everyone is suggesting to remove the shelves... Which I thought had a pottery barn look. Guess not.

I'm so glad some others gave you advice! I would agree that an acrylic or glass coffee table would be better than my ottoman suggestion. Good luck!
