We have an addition (vinyl) and are thinking of painting our brick (GASP!) Actually we have been contemplating it for quite a few years and have moved on to finally choosing a color. We are also going to replace our front door which is rotting from the inside

out. We also have a white New England style picket fence. We thought a white to match the addition (sunroom) but then everything is white... room, fence, overhang, gutters (overhang and gutters are fairly new and white and we aren't wanting to change them). Then we thought of a light gray...? We want to tie in the room and soften the whole house, if that makes sense? We took the shutters down years ago and have never replaced them... not sure I "like" anything but expensive shutters and we could never afford (or decide on a color and style) of those. I also thought of a white wash, German Smear, or limestone wash? HELP! OVERWHELMED!!

Pic 1 - classic creamy yellow with black accents makes me think of Savannah/Charleston
Pic 2 - tone on tone using beige. Notice they left the steps unpainted.
Pic 3 - Tone on tone using gray. Again steps unpainted.
Pic 4 - leave the brick alone, add shutters and bright colored front door.

I vote dark on Windows and trim , either dark brown or dark gray, remove arch molding over front door

You could make that home look totally different by going dark , painting the fence dark too...even a dark dark army green would look great...

The fence is an extruded vinyl and there would be no way to ever paint it or keep it up, so painting is out of the question. I hate the arch over the door, Brandi, but the brick is also shaped that way so I am not sure what to do. We need a portico but not sure that is in the immediate budget with replacing the door, and railings, and re-doing the house. Great suggestions, but I was thinking more of going lighter to better match the white vinyl room addition in the back? I am thinking dark might make it stand out even more.

If you are worried about upkeep do not paint your brick . Brick needs to breathe and when it can’t the moisture makes the paint peel and it gets ugly in a hurry , this is a very lovely home embrace that . I would however be concerned that a door is rotting from the inside water must be getting at it somehow.I would do black window trim and a red door

Lovely ideas, I am thinking of lime washing or a method that does let the brick breathe... I may end up leaving the brick, (although I love the painted examples that Nancy offered above). I am not a red door or black shutter kind of gal... I know many love it but it just isn't "me". I love a softer, look. If I leave the brick, I wonder what else would look nice? I am one of those who does not even like a lot of color in my home (mostly neutrals, grays, etc.) I get tired of color SO fast! lol So thankful for the ideas, though... gets me thinking!
