Old Seed question

Hello, I have been vegetable gardening for 4 years now, very productive square foot garden. I have been using seeds for the past couple years and some are four years old. Didn't notice last year- any sprouting problem. If I continue to get sprouting from my old seed- are there any downsides other that poor germination rates? For example weak plants, etc... Not even sure if that is a possibility, it seems either it sprouts or it doesn't. But I would hate to put in all the work and end up with sickly plants. Any thoughts?
