Shasta daisies are not shrubs but rather herbaceous perennials. These should be cut back to the ground every season. I typically approach this task once the bloom period is over as the plants are ungainly and look ugly as the flower stems dry up. I cut back to ground level and the plant will typically push forth some new basal foliage that stays in place all winter before growing on seriously as the weather warms in spring.

Thanks gardengal. I agree, I posted to the incorrect catagory, however I neglected to cut back this Fall, so I have ugly brown 1-2 foot stems on my front border. Any advice...

Just cut them back hard now. Won't hurt the daisies at all and they'll be back with a vengeance come flowering time :-))
