It's a fairly common occurrence, and especially with multiflora. I'm not sure why - maybe because it's more sensitive to dryness than others. But I think I've read more complaints about bud blast with multiflora/javaonica than any other species. I had it happen with my paulshirlyii last summer. It was trying to bloom for the first time - had 3 peduncles on it and they kept budding up and blasting, over and over and over. It never did bloom for me, and because it was trying to hard to bloom, it hardly grew last year. I'm going to take the peduncles off of it before spring so that it puts energy into growing, then maybe in another year or two, it'll bloom

Another poster here, Kim, has posted multiple times about her multiflora blasting, I think it might be the bane of her hoyexistence actually. It will be interesting to see if the mycorhyza & molasses help!

Sounds like your medium retains water for too long a time and starves the roots of oxygen,resulting in bud blast.This one like it moist but not wet.I get mine to flower on occasion,but i really think its time for a re-pot in new medium.I still rely on a moisture meter..the soil may be dry an inch down,but could be soaking wet near the bottom of the container.Some say they are not reliable,but if you buff up the probe with a green scouring pad every time before watering, it works great!ps...mine is budding up now..ill keep u posted in the development.

This plant hates to get cold, any chance there might be a draft on it? Mine has been in bloom all winter then last week the AC was being serviced for the coming season, blew cold air over it and.......blast cupped leaves and dropping flowers. I live near Dallas hence getting things ready for the heat, today it was 77 degrees.
