This was a clear poly finish over white oak.

    hi Hull Flooring,
We are getting ready to sand and refinish our white oak wide plank floor. Can you provide the name of the clear poly you prefer. Ours (water based Bona) gives is a golden hue, and I am looking for a less yellow effect.
    Thanks for your insight.

Hi Laura, we manufacture wood floors - but we don't install/finish them, so we always recommend seeking the advice of an NWFA-certified installer. You can find one near you at the nwfa.org website. That being said, there are many good water-based polys out there that our clients have had success with, including Bona Traffic, Minwax, and Streetshoe. Most water-based polys will provide a clear coat whereas oil-based polys give a warm amber tone over time. (And if a clear coat is what you are after, you'll want to avoid water-based oil-modified poly, as this will also amber). If you take a look at our white oak gallery at hullforest.com, you will see that many of the photo captions also include the finish information, so these photos may be helpful in your decision making.
