Sofa table vs. t.v. console

Hello, we just got rid of a large dark tv armoire. I moved the sofa table to where the armoire was. We may be getting a larger tv eventually, but this is it for now. I like the room as is. My daughter does not. She thinks the sofa table is too spindly and makes the tv too high and we should get a lower console. Thoughts please?

I think your daughter is correct. The height of the console table in relation to the lounge chair seems awkward.

CAn you move chair to corner of sofa with back to kitchen. If the console and TV are centered on that wall and chair moved it will be fine.

Oops that might interfere with tv. How about you move it closer to table and other chair with back to window?

I think it looks fine smd really nice. Id say add another large object under the table like a basket maybe. But overall I really like it and room is very nice

A large basket of greens, for instance, can hide the cord.

View from standing in front of fireplace.

Thanks for your comments everyone! Susan2494 i tried putting the back of the chair to the window but didn't seem quite right...
I haven't tried to hide the cords yet. I think i will be able to hide them behind the middle back leg of sofa table.

Sorry. I agree with edwards and your daughter. It does look spindly and even if you add baskets or whatever underneath it is still too high and out of proportion to the chair.

    I agree with...you. I like it.

HI -- I think you do need a console that is not a see through piece ... seeing the wainscoting detail and the wires with the legs of the table is a cluttered look. A nice low piece that is a darker color than your other wood furniture . A piece that stands alone in design from your other furniture . It will make the room interesting . I love your room !

Nice room overall, but I agree the table doesn't work, it is spindly and the height of it makes the TV too high. You should be able to look straight into the middle of the TV from where you are viewing it. It looks like you would have to tilt your head up to view this TV. I would wall hang the TV (with the wires in the wall) and put a low cabinet below for the components that would hide the wires. You run the wires through the wall and then have an opening at the cabinet level to plug them into the components. We have done this with our TV's and it's a nice clean look.

Enclosed cabinet and a floor lamp.

I agree with your daughter. A lower closed console would look best. Great space!

Perhaps move the chair to the opposite corner, farther from the tv. Then center the console / tv on the wall. Get some 3m hooks and discreetly attach them to the back of the table so the cords are hidden by the console's frame and not visible.

    Or eliminate the lounge chair.

Some balance can be achieved even if the main furniture pieces are a tad out of scale. OVERALL balance. Especially in lieu of buying everything new. A bigger tv will help but then that will change all the dynamics. So, to make this work, you have to add visual weight to the sofa table. I would look for the biggest baskets you can get for underneath the sofa table. Instead of centering the TV on the table, scootch it to the right. Then your cable box will sit next to the tv on the left. Above that, hang a couple of decent sized prints 18x18 or so, one over the other. Scootch the chair over towards window a radon the corner you may want a plug in lighted wall sconce that would throw some ambient light up, especially since there doesn't appear to be any lighting there.

(Once you get a bigger tv, look into having the cable box remote controlled from a nearby closet). And the TV is NOT too high...in fact you'd have another issue if it were too LOW.

It's a little too high, but not terrible. As long as it's not too uncomfortable when watching TV I think you can get away with it as is.

Thank you everyone for your comments! Susan2494 i really like that photo with the console and floor lamp. Yes, i agree a closed console would look better. I do like the height of the sofa table, and we do not have difficulty with the viewing angle. Oasis, i love your suggestion to add visual weight to the sofa table via large baskets! Thank you again everyone!
