Growing under Lights

How far away from plants do you keep your grow lights

My plants have germinated and now I want to put them under a grow light. The one I have looks like a flood light and is a 120 watt grow light. How far away from the plants do I put this without burning them and/or making the plants spindly and how long does the light need to be on? HELP! I have a black thumb but I'm trying!!!

You haven't given enough information to answer that question. I want you to think good and hard about what that information might be.

I use the back of my hand to judge light intensity. Also you can download an app for some phones that will measure light in lumens. You should be able to feel the light, without it getting too warm after 30 seconds or so on the back of your hand.
