We purchased this lakehouse that had previous water damage to the cedar ceiling. Now we are renovating the house and we were wondering what to do, stain it dark brown or paint it white.

Unfortunately no prime or paint seems to cover the water stains and when we apply white primer or paint it just turns yellow. I read that the best thing to do is stain it dark brown then paint white over it. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
