Euonymus.

Yes^ and yes...quite invasive in N. america, where it's not native. our native Euonymous-E. atropurpurea-is a criminally under utilized shrub with fantastic fruiting bracts that look like little fluorescent lights in the winter landscape. Can't believe there's not more use of that shrub in landscaping, let alone native restoration work.

I don't believe I've ever seen Euonymus kiautschovicus 'Manhattan' (which I believe this to be) escape into the wild in my region. Whereas I have E. fortunei.

I have lived in my present home in 6B for over 20 years. I planted two Manhattan euonymus when doing the initial landscaping. In all this time I have only had two volunteers, which I have happily transplanted to other locations. People say that regular Nandina domestica is invasive, too, but in all this time I have only had one volunteer. Having said that, I have seen Nandina 'Plum Passion' spread like crazy. I think that "invasiveness" has a great deal to do with species variety, soil type and climate. The only euonymus that seems to pop up here and there is my dwarf burningbush, E. alata 'Compacta,' and it is pretty seldom a problem.

Yes, invasive plants are very species-specific (to sound rather redundant).

What's more, there is often a latency period, where the problem is not yet obvious. So it was here with me and Eunymous alatus. I did not agree with the reports that this one was invading our woodlands. Then I found a wooded ravine right here in town just full of these things. The contractor who does much of our veg. maintenance work around our stormwater ponds, etc. also has bid on jobs within this region, for this plant. But as to the species in this post, I will readily admit I don't know if it's invasive anywhere or not. I incorrectly assumed I was looking at E. fortunei. Good catch, Dave in NoVa.
