First Bloom of the Year

The first bloom of the year is Tattooed Daughter. It is a mini and last year's blooms were about 1.5" across. The bush got pretty big so I transplanted it from a 14" pot to a 20" pot last fall. The first bloom of the year is a good 2.5" across.

It is a very difficult bloom to categorize. Last year the blooms were a light orange with a dark orange stripe. This year it is a deep orange, almost red with a light orange stripe. Here is a picture of the same rose last year

That's great Beth! First blooms are the best!!! I wonder when I will get my first bloom. Last year I had to wait until the middle of May but the Cornelian cherry (Cornus mas) and daphodils are flowering a whole month earlier than last year - maybe the roses will also be earlier!
