Assuming the odor is indeed caused by high sulfur content (hydrogen sulfide) then the only potential problem I am aware of its the effect it will have on the pH of your soil (acidifies it) and that can affect the plants so you'd want to monitor your soil pH. Otherwise as long as the gas isn't allowed to concentrate/build up in a confined area with poor circulation it shouldn't pose any problems AFAIK.

Thanks Dave...living near the coast in Florida, you did down 3 or 4 inches and its pure sand. Im thinking of doing container planting or raised bed...its either sulfur or iron or both..maybe they both smell the same. I understand what your saying about PH..there are so many other issues growing tomatoes in fla, don't know whether that will just be another pain....i know if it constantly hits a house it will turn it rust color. guess my issue is should I plant within the sprinkler range (ground water) or water with city water...sprinkler is automatic so that would be an advantage I think...maybe others can comment on experience......maybe my best bet it to just go to the farmers market...:( :)
