I'm learning how to needle tat & am getting the hang of it (I think). However, I keep getting stuck on one thing...What do I do if I forget to "catch" the loop at the base of the ring to close it and a chain forms?

So far I'm just practicing to get the feel of it before I tackle a project. Right now I get distracted early enough that I just cut it off & start over (I'm collecting quite a bit of string for the birds). However, I don't want to get into a pattern & make this mistake.

Any help or suggestions as to where I can find advice for this would be great. So far I've found nothing on line or in my "step-by-step" book. You'd think this would be common enough to find an answer somewhere!
