While searching my closest big box (starts with 'walm' and ends with 'art') for pine bark, not really expecting to find anything, I found 6 plumeria! In Albuquerque!! In March, no less. After I got over the rush of finding them, I talked myself out of buying all 6 then and there. Then I found more. Then I saw the price. $9.95. No. Not a joke. Not a trick, where they use the price tag for a different product and you don't realize it until you're in the checkout line (or worse, at home). $9.95 on the pot, which I would guess is a 3 gallon nursery pot. The plants at my store were 3 1/2 to 4 feet tall and almost all of them had leaves. Some had ugly trunks near the soil line, not rotted, just strange. One in particular looked like it had sprouted, split, and then 1/2 died and was pruned off and the remainder grew into what they are selling. They looked pretty decent overall. No names, just a generic nursery placard reading "Plumeria" and a general picture of several blooms from different cultivars. Didn't think to look for a grower/nursery name. For those of you looking to buy plumeria without shipping costs, try WMart, strange as it sounds. This is almost the worst location in town, and no one (NO ONE) cares about the garden center at this store. These poor babies are outside, under the shade tarp part, not even the metal roof area. I'm surprised they looked as good as they did considering we are still hitting freezing temps most nights. I'm still talking myself out of 'rescuing' all of them, but I'm pretty sure that more than one is coming home with me. For 10 dollars?! I'll see if I can get back there this weekend to take some pics. Happy hunting!
