About 15 months ago an abandoned dog showed up at our farm shop/office. The first two pics are from when she initially showed up and just stared at me through our office door. We've adopted her and she still stares at me in my office when she wants a treat or inside. Super nice dog, seldom barks, very friendly. But she's a runner and a hunter and loves sunshine. She's happiest when she's free and can run as fast as she can. The only vehicles she chases are my husband because she knows he'll give her a ride back home in the pickup which she loves. Before she showed up at our farm she had roamed between 4 homes in our rural neighborhood - about a 4 mile radius. We've been able to keep her running to other households under control by keeping her fed, entertained and occupied. But on the weekends, there are fewer people around the farm. So this morning she showed up at our house- bottom pic - which is 1 1/2 miles away from our shop. First time it's happened. My car was parked outside and I opened the door and she looked at me like "what are you doing here". The bottom pic shows her sitting on our house door step. Other than tying her up, how do we keep her from running. Will a dog zapper collar work for a large area? I'm not really keen on the idea, but that my be other option. Training ideas? Both locations are along a highway. The farm site is 8+ acres which she runs and roams daily. There's a definite personality difference from when she can't run (winter and she's solemn) and summer (warm, running and smiley).
