need support underneath bathtub?

Putting in the bathtub in our master bathroom. There is 2 inches between bottom of the tub and the floor. The contractor is planning to support it by putting 2 strips of plywood underneath, but will this really hold?

It's a soaker tub so it will hold a full tub of water frequently.

Unless the tub manufacturer says not to, it's usual to install the tub in a mortar bed.

The tub manufacturer certainly has a guide on how to install their tub.

Many call for a mortar bed while others are self supporting and get a dab of glue in 4-5 place to keep it from shifting around.

I've never seen or heard of one that called for plywood shims.
