I don't know that I've ever noticed a problem with our neighbor's Amur maple, but then again we have some space and a fence between us. I suspect most of the seedlings, if they sprout at all, are mowed by the lawnmower. Take that with a grain of salt, though. A few places have named Japanese maples as invasive, too, and I've not seen that kind of behavior from a Japanese maple. I'm guessing any maple is suspect, simply because of the seed distribution method.

Thank you for sharing your first-hand experience. I did read that it is considered invasive in some areas.

If that maple is an invasive plant please do not get one.

If it is a native that seeds freely, like redbud here, don' plant one where it overhangs your neighbor's flower bed, but find a good spot for it.

Toronado, that is precisely why I'm asking. From my first post, I clearly don't want it if it is invasive. I'm zone 2/3 and many plants that are invasive in warmer zones are not invasive here. =]

It depends on your soil, also. For example, in SoCal (where I live). no maple is invasive.
