The picture and the shelves are competing with each other for attention. There are too many things on the shelf so nothing really stands out. It just looks like a lot of things. Use fewer things and space them out. Use some larger things along with some books. Put the top shelf on the other side over the television. Put the second one up further--1/2 way to where the top one is now.

I would suggest a much taller larger picture over the fireplace, placed higher over the mantle. The elements in the room are out of proportion to the size of the walls.

The fireplace mantle is colonial. The shelves are contemporary. Replace the mantle with a row of soldier placed bricks.

I would remove the dried plant in the corner.
