Oversized kitchen range hood

I have an existing 54" Rangemaster hood that's in excellent condition and thinking of replacing the range going from a 48" down to 36". Will it look too out of proportion?

Although it will definitely look out of proportion, there are some things that can be done, design-wise, to "transition" the size of the hood to the more appropriate visual dimension.

For example, you can use a utensil rack to "copy" the width of the hood, and it makes a nicer transition (hood-rack-utensils-range) than the sudden change from hood-to-range, as in this example:

It all depends on how much you love the hood, and how expensive it would be to remove & replace it, versus "reframing" it with some other design elements to make it work better with the dimensions of the new range.

We would recommend posting this question again, but with photos of the hood & the space in question, and giving it a headline that makes it clear it's a design challenge. We're sure that the Houzz community will come up with some answers! :)
