Hate wind.

March is definitely a lion today! My little take-a-part greenhouse I just reassembled a few days ago completely blew apart! Think it's ok, though, but will find out when I put it back together again. Will have to tie it down better. Luckily I didn't have any plants in it.

Sustained winds of about 25mph here.

An afternoon high of 46°f and there was just a little snow about noon so it wasn't really a terribly unpleasant day.

You know what the problem is? Daylight Saving Time. Yeah, the 60 minutes that were added in the wee hours this morning. That got everything outta wack ...

I don't know what the sustained winds were here, but they were strong, and when I checked NOAA one time it was gusting at 41 mph. I'm sure there were gusts over that, 'cause I was out in the yard and was having some trouble keeping my feet attached to the ground at times!

It only went down to 39º here last nite, and was up to 64º today, but I was out trying to get something cut down in the shade, and it felt more like COLD! I'll finish the cutting down some other day! Altho, it would have been nice to have finished it because there wouldn't have been anything to clean up after I got done! Everything was blowing away as fast as I was cutting!

Did you live "down here" back in the 70s, Digit??? Don't remember the year, but here in Colorado we voted one year if we wanted to have daylight saving time, or if we wanted to stay on standard time all year. (When I moved here in '64 we had standard time all year.) You should have heard the people on the radio talk shows and in editorials in the papers! The chickens were going to stop laying eggs! The flowers were going to stop blooming!!! It was insane--and hilarious--how many people couldn't figure out that there were still the same number of hours in the day!

As for me! I LOVE DST! Now it's already "usably" light out till 7:30! In another month the days will be LONG again.

I sure hope most of those LONG days don't have this much WIND!

Hunker down everybody! This is supposed to keep up till Thursday. Sure hope they're right about getting some snow here Thursday/Friday! The wind is gonna dry out everything that isn't already dry by then!

It doesn't make sense about "down" except to the mapmakers but living this far north I seem to be in some sort of scramble trying to adjust to the sun! Eight hours December 21. Sixteen hours June 21! Then, toss in Daylight Saving Time.

Spring, I'm adjusting almost weekly to the sunrise, earlier and earlier - suddenly, a big backwards jump! Fall, I worry about the kids being out in October, waiting for the bus in the dark.

Forever, I have not relied on an alarm clock. This began long before I retired. And, I have always hated an alarm! Just what I do not want to start my day - an alarm!

If management wants us at work earlier and labor is okay with that, where do government decisions factor into the matter?

I'm a morning person. I have said (out of hearing range of the boss), if I can't get it done by noon - it won't get done. Almost true ... I'd better be wrapping it up after about 1 PM and just "monitoring" it later ...

We have had a vole kind of winter! When the snow melted off of the lawn the vole holes and runs were very apparent! Anyone else in the Rockies had a vole attack this year? Do you have tried and true vole repellants?

It sure is cold, snowy, and windy out there... this probably means the peach tree buds wont bloom this year :(

Susan, in the garden voles can be bad news. The tips of green beans and ripe tomatoes are favorites and burrows in the tomato patch must be a good place for them to hide.

I've actually had coyote help me out in the tomatoes. However appreciated, an over-enthusiastic digging the vole out was a little extreme!

Flooding. I have apparently wrecked their burrows by laying a hose down and allowing it to run into the hole for 30 minutes, or so. Moved on or drowned, I usually can't be sure.

Flooding. Currently, the local voles are probably safe as the record 7/10" of rain fell over 24 hours and not 30 minutes. More rain tonight ... Soon, I will be able to evaluate how quickly glacial till drains. I don't think the voles are quite ready to move into the garden but I am!
