The painting is great, love the colors. It's too small on it's own in that spot. 1) add complimentary pieces and create a grouping. 2) find large piece for over sofa, and move this piece to a smaller wall. For your rug and pillows, pull the colors right out of the artwork. Consider a woven rug for texture. Enjoy!

Do curtains, no window topper. That's a very dated look.

Agree, that the art by itself is too small for that wall, but I love the vivid colors. A heavily textured throw in orange or cream would look nice and pillows in colors that compliment the art. You have a lovely empty canvas to build on.

For curtains, I'd do something pretty close to the wall color. Linen always works.

Love the piece right where it is. Just add some other pieces as suggested to make a gallery wall!

Art doesn't have to" match" your furniture Imho.It should be a piece you love. Maybe look more for something you really will enjoy looking at every day. Go to galleries, art shows for inspiration.

Perhaps try the art in dining area over sofa. Is it bigger? Have you considered rugs for the LR and DR areas?

The metal piece is nice, but I would look for something in one piece that covers the wall. Do you have a Pier 1? They have several art pieces that are big enough for the space.

Sorry, to my eye it looks like it came from Home Goods or Marshall's. It's very generic. It's okay for a doctor's office, but art in a home should really have some personality, and be personal.

Your room would be better served with something personal. A group of three or four enlarged photos that mean something to you would be far more suitable. Plus, it's something to talk about with guests--something with a story.

And, Oh. My. God. A big NO to that metal thing. It absolutely screams "Made in China!".

You've got the right picture over the sofa. Just add sconces or ? . Get pillows to match the blue in the art. Maybe your new lamp could be the same blue or silver crinkle, ( I can't think of the name right now)

Sharron: Go to events at art schools, art shows, design schools, etc. You can get real art, meet the artists, buy something real, and all for the same price you pay for mass merchandise, imported schlock. Art doesn't have to cost a lot. One well-chosen real piece is worth a dozen (or three dozen) pieces of mass produced junk (and it supports artists in your community.

As an aside, I could not do the work you do, so good for you.

Agree that you need a horizontal grouping or large horizontal painting above your sofa.

So..... I assumed you liked the artwork and its colors, and went into the "virtual" world and resized it, and then went shopping with your credit card! New table to replace ottoman, new pillows, new lamp to replace torchiere, new rug, drapery panels, candlesticks, and viola, new room!

tatts, I think you misspoke. You meant original art, not real art, right? Because the painting I linked to is real art, just in the form of a giclee print. And buying it does support the artist, actually better than her selling only originals would.

Painters who don't command premium prices for their originals are called starving artists. If she could find two 40" square originals for $450, the artist is either making well under minimum wage, using low quality canvas and paints, or just isn't very good.

This 36 x 48" original from Kat Shoa is $4300. The giclee print is $345. She can only sell one original, but she can sell an infinite number of prints at prices more people can afford. It's a win-win for her and the buyer.

Please don't sneer at prints.

I am both a nurse and an artist, lol. As a painter, over the years, we've collected pieces of art of fellow painters as well as my own. An original oil, depending on the size, is not much more than the mass produced giclees.
Art shows and galleries often have reasonably priced paintings. The market is really slow now, as people seem to shop at big box stores and discount stores more and more for decor items. Art should be something that makes you happy!
Some of the giclees are nice, just be sure you love it and you're not buying it to match your room.

For all of the suggestions on where to purchase art, and I've seen a post where she absolutely insulted the poster, the term that should be used is 'original art', not 'real art'...........Just keeping it real.

Don't be fooled by the fancy-schmancy word: giclee is just an ink-jet print with a fancy name. Like all ink-jet prints, it will fade. It's disposable from the day you buy it.
