Clean em up or not - whatever appeals to you. Walking onions often stay a bit green over winter and still put out lots of new growth with last years leaves often dying off as spring growth starts. This is about as dependable a perennial as there is in the onion family. If you leave them alone they will take care of themselves, if you baby them, they will accept any good will gladly. You control them by which of the bulbils you allow to grow, and how thick you allow the clumps to get.

Agree. If you want to tidy them up, go ahead, but the onions will pump out new leaves regardless.

I had so many that I let one bed go for 12 month & cleaned it up this Spring.

I have let some beds go all Summer & pull all the onions out after frost to save the top bulbs for replanting & the large bulbs we ate.

They are tough as nails & could grow in the wild.
