I leave the seed pods on the plants. They increase slowly but surely for me. I regularly find little seedlings. I guess you could collect the seed and sow it in pots, but I have never done it.

Hi Karen, I think your snowdrops are G. elwesii and both they and the nivalis are easy from seed. I have several elwesii sprouting this spring where the seed pods split and have grown (and then promptly killed) them in pots as well :)

You could collect the pods when they start to yellow, leave them to split open or just break them open to get the seed out. Plant it right away and cover with about an inch of soil (yes, plant them deep) and wait for them to sprout in the spring. If you grow them in a pot don't let the pot freeze since for some reason this is likely to kill the seedlings even though they survive just fine in the soil frozen....

That is great news! Thank you very much, Katob. I was not sure if they are hard or easy propagating from seeds. Right now, I have 4 types of snowdrops. The only one I am certain of its identity is the nivalis flore pleno. The other 3 are all single snowdrops but their foilage all look different. The ones I got from a trade was supposed to be G. elwesii but the plants and flowers are too small to be called giant snowdrop. The foliage of this snow drop is the most blueish grey like the color of spruce needles. The ones I bought as G. nivalis have green foliage and the flowers and plants themselves are like 5 times the size of the G.elwessi from the trade. The third ones I got from K. van bougendien were supposed to be g. Nivalis but they have glossy bright green foliage with smallish flowers. Do you happen to have photos of your g. Nivalis and g. elwessi, Katob? I am trying to figure out which is which and what is what. i think they are all mislabeled.
