Poor root system

I purchased this Hoya Carnosa that has a lot of wrinkly leaves. I checked the roots and they are frizzy and when you shake the stem pieces of roots come flying off.

Is there a "magic" potion to help roots get healthy??? Should I start some cuttings?

This stem is over 2 feet long.

This stem is fuller but a little shorter.

Id like to save them because they are mature stems that should produce flowers soon.

How is great white used? The photos are after shaking the dead loose roots.

Maybe dust it with Great White and repot in loose media. It is a product that is geared for root growth and curing what ails them. I use it and have had great results so far after 2 applications. Perhaps Jimmy or another more experienced member can help more. What's left of them after you shook off the dead stuff looks good.

I had the same thing with a slver wing pubicalyx. I just potted it up into good mix and it soon came good. I just shook the dead stuff off, didn't make any cuts.

If you go onto their website http://www.plant-success.com/product/great-white/ .There is quite a bit of info about the microbes that will keep your good roots that are left, able to thrive and put out new healthy growth.

Thanks Marco, I received the Great White today. I repotted several Hoyas that weren't looking great and one citrus tree that has been declining for the last month. I hope I can see a difference after just 2 applications :-)

Monica, those microbes react much better when mixed/used with plant molasses, which it uses for food along with the rot and salts in the pot. I use Hi-Brix, 'molasses for plants' to feed the microbes and get them to multiply. It provides the microbes with beneficial sugars.

The recommended usage is from 1 tsp. per gallon for a mild solution, up to 2 tablespoons for strong. I added 1 tsp. to the gallon of water with the Great White in it, gave it a shake and treated my plants. It smells like Superthrive.

This bottle is only a quart but weighs 2 lbs. and cheap.

I really am seeing early and new growth, even from old nodes that have long since lost their leaves. YMMV. (your mileage may vary).

I bought the molasses and should get it tomorrow. I also saw another product on Amazon that's similar to great white and has the molasses in it. It's called Real Growers Recharge. I may try that too.

Thanks Jimmy and Marco. I hope to get those ginormous Hoyas like Tawny. :-))

Monica, I use Recharge and I like it. I can't say for sure Recharge is the whole reason because it's spring, and it can just be that plants settled in their new pots after a while, but some plants started growing a lot after I started using it. Now I use it on all of my plants. I figured it has to be beneficial.
