No, the back is attached with hinges. You can remove the ropes and fold the bed against the wall. The ropes are attached to the ceiling with lag bolts. We prepared wood blocking prior to installing the 1X6 finish boards.

What is the point of having a swing bed if it doesn't swing??? It's really attached to the wall???

cclaxton. We never intended for this unit to be a swing bed. It's a suspended floating bed. We did not have a large enough space to provide adequate clearance for the bed to swing. Without this clearance, the bed would hit the back wall, dresser and / or the 2nd bed.

I have a swing bed on the porch. LOVE it! I get nauseous easy, the first few times...yes motion sickness was a problem. Since then...I really enjoy it. Everyone that comes out just 'has to have one'! I found the idea and asked my husband to build one for me. All it lacks is drink holders!

Lindsey, How do you keep the bed from hitting into the wall?? Thanks-love it & would like to know before we consider one.
