Not if you have lots of light coming in during the day. If your kitchen has gloomy environment to begin with, you better off with midtone or lighter kitchen, under cabinet lighting, etc.

You'd need a lot of natural light, and make sure that you have lighting in your ceiling and under cabinet lighting. Also, ensure that you paint the walls a lighter color.

Both cabinets & floors would be too much dark for me. A dark floor will show more dirt, dust, etc. Don't be a slave to your floor. Also what type of backsplash are you considering?

It's not going to make it lighter.! I wouldn't do dark on dark. It washes each other out.

Dark kitchens come from dark cabinets. So "yes" dark cabinets = dark kitchens. Dark flooring is going to AMPLIFY the "dark". So many people are ripping out "dark on dark" kitchens that were put in in the 90's. The only saving grace is the "light" counters...but I would prefer to see a lighter floor with dark cabs.

If you are questioning the direction of your designer...you better TELL him/her that you are not happy with the direction they are going. Dark on dark = dark. There is NO WAY around it.

If you LOVE the look that you are seeing on paper...if it excites you/thrills you, then go for it. If you question if it will be 'too dark' then your are already having doubts. Stop the process and reassess. Better to hurt the designer's feelings today, then hurt your wallet in 10 months when you are DESPERATE to remove it all because it "was too dark". Imagine going through all of this again because you didn't put your foot down now.

Dark on dark can be magnificent, dramatic and intense. It requires TREMENDOUS amount of lighting with all the upgrades! Not everyone is into this look. You have to be a "fan" before you have it installed in your home.
