Range Hood for 48" Wolf range top

My appliance sales person advises me to get a 48" Vent A Hood to go with a Wolf 48" range top. I am aware Vent a Hood makes very efficient hoods, My concern is that it (EPH18-248) provides only 600 CFM, although on the website it advertises that the hood's power is equivalent to 900 CFM. And my sales person reassures me this hood is sufficient for my Wolf 48" range top. Any experience with this and thoughts?

Your hood should have 1 CFM per 100 BTUs of your range. For example, the 48" Wolf GR486C (I don't know what model you are looking at) has a capacity of about 100,000 BTU. This would require a hood that can put out 1,000 CFM. You should also be aware of your range's requirements for upper cabinets. Often there cannot be flammable material within 6" of the edge of the cooktop. This will be noted in your range's installation instructions. Unless you have no upper cabinets on either side of your cooktop, you should probably get a wider hood (54" to 60").
