Hmmm.. leaf oddity

hello good people i have a question about a hoya publicalyx splash that seems very healthy but has leaves that are thin and papery. it seems like these leaves are mostly on the very splashy leaves, anyone have this issue or know what it be?

Pic? New leaves can be pretty thin, but papery sounds like dehydration. Like crinkly papery or thin like paper?

thin like paper. I don't know if it will picture well but I will try.

that fold is an example of how thin the mature leaf is, its the strangest thing.

Hm. Hard to tell from pic, but it looks a bit sun bleached, which would explain the papery look/feel. What type of light do you have it in?

It does look dehydrated to me, Mel. Can you trace it back and see if it's just one vine or just new growth?

    Denise in Omaha

tawney, mine are in west window, is that ok for plant type? Denise, i cant trace it to one vine its spread out through the plant and not only newgroth, but i did notice that all the papery leaves have a purple tint.. is there a such thing as a mucked up hybrid?

Purple tint would be normal for that plant. If it's getting direct sun in your west window, I would move it back or away. Filtered light or bright indirect is better, direct sun, especially prolonged direct sun, will bleach out and/or burn your leaves.

I have mine in a west facing window, but it only gets filtered light. I made the mistake a few summers ago, when I was still new to hoyas, of trying to "pink up" the leaves of pubicalyx Pink Silver by placing it outside in direct South sun!. It did not end well, but the leaves sure did pink up! And a few days later, the plant fried.

thanks! I will try moving it back I hope it pulls through because its truly a sweet plant I just have not experienced this type of issue. the seller did not know how to label the plant, it's not a pink silver and it's not a RHP, but it is definitely a splash with purple leaves

I just noticed the same thing on part of a pubicalyx leaf. Papery is definitely the word, mine was too close to my grow light.

Kim, does yours also have the purple tint? was it from a ebay vendor? i hope your plant is ok now

No, mine came from a friend but was shipped in cold weather and then promptly under watered by yours truly. A makeshift humidity tent brought it right back to perfect again.

thanks guys I took one cutting, and think I'll do like Kim and pull out that useless face steam thing and make a humidity tent. ghetto fabulous!

My other ghetto fabulous trick, to keep plants alive in the summer in my West Window of Death, bamboo blinds and sheer curtains to mottle the light up.

lol good idea Kim. I thought I was doing that too but after hearing about ur West Window of Death, and the other advice I'm thinking my blinds are too wide. maybe not filtered enough.

Maybe some sheer curtains over the blinds? Any color, mine are a dusty lavender.

dusty lavender sounds soo soothing I love that! my issue is for some reason I'm not into curtains, I'm more of a straight blinds person, my living rooms has oriental style paper shades that filter good but I think I would miss brightness in my house. probably just need to move them :(
