Killing my Daffodils?

Much to the horror of some gardeners, I have taken to liking Comfrey (Symphytum uplandicum) It grows and covers its own mess and in the fall it is one clean up.

However, I have heard that if plants grow where daffodils are, the shade will kill off the daffodils and other bulbs. I take it that it is almost the same as cutting back the green after the bulbs bloom and that
the leaves do need sunlight to replenish the bulb. However, the Comfrey
does not cover the bulbs until they are well into dying back.

Yes, No, Myth? Mysther? Mythiss?
